D.R.U.G.S. drops new single “It Follows” ahead of highly anticipated album Until God Shows releasing September 27

Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S) have dropped another single that’ll be featured on their new album which is slated to drop on September 27. This will be their third official album named Until God Shows. Vocalist Craig Owens said “[the album] is a high energy, and fun ride through the rollercoaster world of D.R.U.G.S. Complete with a backstory, and art to bring every sound and feeling to life.” This is a very intriguing way to describe how you want the music to come across.

The title of this latest track is It Follows. Owens has explained that the inspiration behind this song is about being trapped in emotional trauma and how hard it is to break free from the weight the pain carries. Honestly, the title alone told me that the song was going to be about fighting free and how something just keeps following.

The lyrics, “I run until it catches up, it’s getting close but not enough,” I just love. All this pain is following and we cannot escape it and, in a way, let it still into our lives but as we attempt to distance ourselves from it, keeps it more at bay rather than controlling us entirely. Yet, it’s still there trapping us in the hurt and feelings. You want to run but can’t still, which makes me think on how sometimes we keep the luggage because we don’t know who we are without it. The troubles were all we knew. Are we nothing without them? The answer is yes, you can live without needing the pain but because it is so hard to break free completely it lingers. That’s what it wants. The message and how Owens is conveying this in the lyrics and high energy sound is so good.

I only started listening to D.R.U.G.S last year when I saw them open for Escape the Fate and definitely left there as a fan. Seeing the new music come back is very exciting and I am super ready to see what else is coming. You can stream this single on all platforms and the band has confirmed they will be playing a show in Anaheim on October 10, so go secure a ticket to that!
