The Heavy Heavy electrify Music Hall of Williamsburg: A night of soulful rock and nostalgia

On a lively Saturday night in Brooklyn, The Heavy Heavy delivered their signature blend of rock ‘n’ roll at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, putting on a performance as dynamic and powerful as their debut album, One of a Kind. Touring the U.S. for the second time, the UK-based band came out swinging, confidently owning the stage.

The Heavy Heavy balances lyrical poetry with rock ’n’ roll trailblazing. One of a Kind draws on an impressive mix of iconic influences, paying homage to legends like the Rolling Stones, Motown, and 1990s Brit rock. The album plays like a psychedelic trip with groovy tones and expressive vocals. The main themes present are empowerment, joy, and self-reflection. The group does a great job bringing all these elements to life on stage, fusing dreamy guitar riffs with soulful harmonies.

When the doors finally opened at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, an eager crowd quickly filled the venue to near capacity. Some concertgoers cozied up in the balcony, while others packed into the standing room. The venue’s several floors provided a variety of viewpoints, making for an unforgettable concert experience. Chants of “Heavy Heavy” echoed from the crowd as the room buzzed with major anticipation.

The minimal stage design featured several sections for the band members to move around, with a single sunflower mounted on the main mic stand as their only aesthetic.

At 9:15 p.m., the lights dimmed, the segway music cut off, and in a flash, The Heavy Heavy quintet—Georgie Fuller, Will Turner, Benjamin Parker, Thomas Holder, and James Porter—stepped onto the stage. Georgie, in a stunning white dress that complemented the venue’s lighting, was particularly vibrant. After warmly greeting the New York crowd, they opened with “Parakeets” from One of a Kind, and the shift in energy was noticeable as soon as the first notes hit. The audience was locked in, grooving to the nostalgic yet fresh sound the band has perfected.

The group alternated seamlessly between dance-worthy rhythms and introspective ballads. Fan favorites from their first EP, Life and Life Only, were also featured in the setlist. Their synchronicity was effortless, showcasing undeniable chemistry between bandmates. A standout moment was the performance of the title track, “One of a Kind,” which felt like a giant jam session. All the elements and instruments merged together effortlessly, creating a sound both expansive and intimate. They maintained that momentum through hits like “Lemonade” and “Man on the Hill,” showcasing their songwriting prowess.

Their performance was tight and polished, keeping the audience fully engaged throughout the duration. Whether they were singing back to the group or moshing to the groove, everyone enjoyed their time. It is worth saying that, when the show concluded, the crowd’s disappointment was evident, with fans loudly demanding an encore. Just when it seemed like the party was over, the lights flickered again, and The Heavy Heavy returned for one last song. Leaving a lasting impression on the Brooklyn crowd, who couldn’t get enough. The Heavy Heavy delivered on every note, fully satisfying their audience.

Currently in the midst of a packed tour schedule with more than 30 dates, including stop in Toronto, Los Angeles, and Berlin, The Heavy Heavy continue to elevate their live performances. If they’re stopping in your city, catching them live is an absolute must. Their blend of dynamic sound and infectious energy is sure to leave you wanting more!
