On September 17th, 2024- Erik Lankin released his debut instrumental and neo-classical song “The Art of Flying” which reinvents the myth of Daedalus as a metaphor for losing his father to suicide. Suicide is a very touchy subject, but it also can create haunting and heartfelt art especially through music. Lankin has utilized a soaring, emotional string ensemble in combination with electroacoustic sound design, created by reversing the piano which undergirds this track “This technique exposes unique harmonic and timbral contexts and explores the impossibility of turning back time, as I was aching to do while composing in the midst of grieving” – Lankin
Lankin’s music flows between grief and torment to find places of hope, triumph and healing, reflecting
his personal journey of coping with loss and finding meaning in music. His work is a testament to his
talent, passion, and courage as a composer. He is dedicated to forging new paths for classical music to be expressed in the world.
