On June 28th, 2024- Appalachia Moderna released their 13th single “Sacred Dirt” that’s an inspiration from a tv episode from Bosch where the character finds out the burial place of their mother in desert. “Sacred Dirt” is a perfect encapsulation of Jaida James and Jeffrey Scornavacca’s blend of soulful vocals, traditional melodies, and modern instrumentation. The music, as their name suggests, strikes a balance between the rich, emotive ballads and blues of centuries past and contemporary, edgy production elements. The song features James’ soulful vocals, which convey a deep sense of longing and reverence. Her voice, rich with emotion, draws listeners into the narrative, making them feel the weight of the story being told. The traditional melody lines evoke a sense of nostalgia, harkening back to the roots of Americana and folk music. Complementing these traditional elements is Scornavacca’s edgy slide guitar work, which adds a modern twist to the song’s production. The slide guitar, with its haunting and resonant tones, mirrors the desolate beauty of the desert setting which the song draws its inspiration. The subdue percussion further enhances the song’s emotional impact, creating a sense of serenity and introspection.
