On August 11, 2024, Midview, from Dayton, Ohio, released their newest single, “3002,” and if you are an individual who suffers from anxiety, depression, or any other mental health conditions, I believe this song is for you. If you are a fan of The Used, Hawthorne Heights, and Senses Fail, check this band out! They give us those early 2000’s post-hardcore vibes and we are loving every minute of it!
“I’m lost inside my head again, today I laid in bed till 10, stuck on my phone afraid to leave, the safety of my warm bed sheets.” The first few lyrics I can relate to very heavily. When my depression gets a hold of me, I tend to get stuck in my head, and at times, I just want to constantly be laying down, not getting up to even eat or go to the bathroom. The lyric discussing being stuck on your phone is very relatable because I feel like people try to get lost in their cellular devices to forget about that they are stuck in their head.
“Self medicate to feel myself, the paranoia slowly creeps, dissociate to cope with hell, please take me back to higher peaks.” These lyrics are also very relatable because dissociation occurs for myself all the time when my mind is too overwhelmed, and 90% of the time I don’t even realize that I am dissociating until I look at the time. “Self medicate” hits really hard because the way I look at this lyric is people tend to medicate themselves, not with your typical mental health medication, but with self harm, alcohol, drugs, or being overly sexual to hide those feelings that are overwhelming you.
“Running in reverse til I’m dead, the pavement turns to quick stand, misery fills up my chest, my lungs inflate with smoke again, Inhale/Exhale, short of breath and my knees are trembling, was born to fail, I’m not weak but I’m disassembling.” When the chorus started, I realized I feel the same way, like I was born to just constantly fail, continuously feel like I am drowning, and not being able to breathe at times due to the feelings of sadness.
“3002” is a song I wrote about my struggle with anxiety and depression, it takes place in a time where I felt trapped and overwhelmed. It illustrates my feelings of paranoia, and how I grappled with self-doubt and a desire for clarity and peace amidst the chaos” – Matt Schetter
