Michigander announces debut album, headline tour underway, new single “Emotional” out now

Indie rock project Michigander, led by singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jason Singer, has announced the long awaited release of his debut album, Michigander. The album is set to release February 7 via Totally Normal Records through Thirty Tigers. Along with this announcement, Michigander released the track “Emotional,” available for streaming on all platforms now, and released the official lyric video for the song.

On the new album and single, Jason Singer said the following:

“I’ve worked my whole life to create my first album, and this moment truly feels like a special one. With the release of ‘Emotional’ I finally get to share this feeling with my fans and let them know it’s coming. I can’t wait for people to hear it and to play all this music live. ‘Emotional’ was one of the first songs Jeremy Lutito (who produced the whole record) and I wrote together. He had that synth bass and drum beat idea that sort of goes throughout the entire song. The song is about trying to progress as a human in spite of being human. I think most people are just trying their best, and that’s all we can really do.”

The new album also includes “Giving Up,” which was released in August alongside the official music video directed by Tyler Appel (Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness, Manchester Orchestra). “Giving Up” is available for streaming on all platforms and the official music video is available for streaming on YouTube. The track saw immediate success, earning airplay with nationwide Alt Rock radio outlets, was featured as the cover of Spotify’s The New Alt, and had the #1 spot on The New Rock (Apple Music) and The Hot Rock (Tidal). “Giving Up” also had immediate success on popular playlists such as New Music Friday and It’s Alt Good (Spotify), New Music DailyTrending SongsNew In Rock, and New in Alternative (Apple Music), Brand New Rock and Fresh Indie (Amazon Music), and Eclectic Rock (YouTube Music).

Pre-order/pre-save Michigander now. A limited edition Michigander vinyl is also available for pre-order here

Michigander also recently stopped by Charlottesville-Richmond’s WNRN 88.5 for a special NPR Music Live Session performance of “Giving Up,” as well as exclusive performances of “Superglue” and “Misery.”

In celebration of his highly anticipated and long awaited debut album, Michigander kicked off his US headlining tour, The Broadcast Starring Michigander, last week. Cece Coakley (October 10-November 22) and Sydney Sprague (January 14-February 7) will join as supporting acts on the tour which will make its way across the US before ending February 7th with an album release show in Nashville, TN, at The Basement East. The Michigan native, now based out of Nashville, has amassed over 100 million streams globally across multiple EPs, including Midland (2018), Where Do We Go From Here (2019), Everything Will Be OK Eventually (2021), and It Will Never Be The Same (2023), the latter of which received praise from NPR, which stated, “It’s impossible not to root for Singer, whose mix of optimism and vulnerability in his music has been one of indie rock’s most exciting stories in the last few years.” Michigander further gained the admiration of fans with performances alongside Silversun Pickups and Pete Yorn, during his recent tours with The Head and the Heart and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, and at festivals such as Lollapalooza.

“The last 10 years were awesome. Everything built up to this point though. To make an analogy, the EPs were like television episodes of my story, and the album is the movie version. It’s blown up on the big screen. I’m just getting started, but this is my introduction to the world.”  -Jason Singer
