Here’s a rewritten version of the article:
Girlschool, formed in the U.K. in 1978 during the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement, is closely linked with their peers and friends in Motörhead. As the longest-running all-female rock band, they continue to deliver high-energy performances over 40 years into their career.
The band achieved widespread media attention and commercial success in the U.K. during the early 1980s with a string of albums blending punk energy with metal aggression, alongside several popular singles.
During the 1990s and 2000s, Girlschool focused primarily on live performances and touring, while scaling back their studio output. Over the decades, they’ve performed at some of the world’s largest rock and metal festivals and have shared stages with leading acts in the hard rock and heavy metal world.
With a dedicated global following, Girlschool has become an inspiration to future generations of female rock musicians, including bands like The Donnas.
The current lineup still includes original members Kim McAuliffe and Denise “Drench” Dufort. Their original lead guitarist, Kelly Johnson, passed away from cancer in 2007, and she was succeeded by Jackie “Jax” Chambers on lead guitar in 1999.
On July 28, 2023, Girlschool celebrated 45 years of rocking with the release of their 14th studio album, WTFortyfive?. This album is a raw and unapologetic testament to the band’s enduring attitude, filled with 12 tracks of gritty, no-nonsense rock. Kim, Denise, Jackie, and Tracey Lamb deliver fierce riffs, gritty melodies, and heavy crunch throughout the record, proving that age is just a number when it comes to maintaining their authentic, rebellious spirit.
Lineup:
Kim McAuliffe: rhythm guitar, lead and backing vocals
Denise Dufort: drums Olivia Airey: bass
Jackie Chambers: lead guitar, backing vocals
