It’s been a hot second since I’ve gone to a comedy show, so getting to the venue was a venture in and of itself. Thankfully, I’ve apparently passed by the ComedySportz dozens of times. I had no idea what to expect upon walking in. To be fair, I was planning on it being so much smaller inside. It’s also a restaurant, so if you come on an empty stomach, never fear, there are options! I didn’t order anything, but the menu offers your typical bar options, from light sides like fries or cheese curds to more filling choices like burgers. Plus, there are plenty of drinks to choose from.
It’s one price for two shows! I stayed for the first one and wasn’t super awake to make it through two. However, I imagine that they’re both set up in a similar manner. Tonight was a tournament night, with two teams competing for a spot in the finals. The Krusty Krabs faced off against the Wisconsinners.
The referee, Lisa, made sure everyone in the room knew what to do and reminded us of audience participation. Comedy shows are about interaction between those on stage and those in the room which I always think is fun to see. The crowd got to help cheer them on and were the deciding factor on the winners of the night.
It was a night of laughter and unexpected shenanigans. Each team had a captain that led the charge and challenges they were presented. From there, Lisa made sure to get help from the people and keep track of time. My favorite part was when one of the Krusty Krab team members came flying out of a window during the segment where they acted out a two-minute scene that had to be recreated again in half of the previous amount of time. This was for the audience’s choice of seeing it in 15 seconds. I personally wanted to see the scene done backwards, but seeing it performed at extreme speed was pretty funny, too.
In the end, the Krusty Krabs took the win and the Wisconsinners were awarded a hug from Lisa.
If you’re interested in seeing a show through Comedysportz, check out their event calendar here. They’ve got locations all across the states. If there’s not one near you, find a local comedy spot and check them out. I highly recommend going to a comedy night. They’re fun and you never know what you’ll see! Hopefully, though, it’ll be a blast that will make your stomach hurt from the giggles.
