On October 17th, 2024- Metalcore band from Germany; Soulleech released their newest eye-opening single “Break Me” and I honestly can’t get enough of it. I randomly found them on my Spotify as I was going to work and I knew I had to come home and write about this band. As you listen to this song you realize it’s about a relationship that you should’ve sat back and told yourself this person does not deserve you. The video is so dark, luring, and mysterious which almost makes me think that the woman in the video is a empty vessel almost like your soul lost. And your soul is just stuck in an unfortunate situation causing dread and sadness. The beginning of the song starts with very soft vocals and goes right into the heavier vocals trying to prove that this person gave their all and you can sense that anger instantly. Throughout the song; the way I interpret the vocals when the cleans and heavier vocals are overlapping each other; it gives me the sense that the heavier vocals wants to be done with everything and they know the person is not good for them, but the softer vocals gives that person hope. And that hope makes them stay and try to fight through those thoughts of knowing that the person in their life is only there to cause hurt.
“I gave you everything; My heart and a knife; You stabbed a hole in me; And set fire to my life; It was my own fault to think; Giving all of me in your hands; Wouldn’t lead to this” The chorus tells you that the person feels like they gave their partner that freedom to hurt them which the lyrics “My heart and a knife” meaning they caused that damage to themselves and they should’ve known better. At the end of the chorus the person honestly believes that if they gave the person everything they had they wouldn’t cause any harm, but at the end of it all; hurt was unavoidable.
