On October 17th, 2024- Ocean Sleeper released “Maybe Death Is All I Need” and this song in my honest opinion deserves song of the year! The song may only be 2:22 long, but it has one of the toughest and nastiest breakdowns I heard in a very long time. And I can’t get enough of it. I don’t know if this band ever came to the states yet, but like I always say; Australian and Swedish bands are top tier. The multi-vocal break down in the song clenches my soul every single time and I hope I can hear the breakdown live in 2025! The close up in the beginning of the video of the vocalist yelling the name of the song will automatically get you anxious and excited for the rest of the video! Between the chaotic and softer movements of the video transitioning from the heavier vocals to the cleans is what makes this song of the best metalcore songs. During 1:12 to 1:22 that’s when the isolated vocals occurred with three members screaming “Under shame that never leaves; Maybe death is all i need” with the camera shifting to each one until the breakdown happened. Those 10 seconds is the reason why this song has over 100k plays on Spotify already!

If you read these lyrics I feel like it expresses that death is meant to happen for this person. And that that no matter what they will feel like they are drowning in the feeling that they will never experience happiness. Sometimes we all feel like this and at times these thoughts make us feel like we will never experience positivity or happiness. Death is not what anyone needs, but this song is there in my opinion to push you to continue striving in this world until you find that happiness.
