On November 21st, 2024- When The Sun Sets released their newest track “Undertow” which automatically made me assume this song is about mental health because the way I look at the song title; I think about the ocean. The ocean has currents that can flow against each other which resembles mental health. We fight against those feelings of sadness, grief, and so much more and at the same time we feel like we are doing better, but in reality the happiness and sadness both collide consistently. When Baumgartner sings in the song as well as Courtney; it gives me hope. You can sense in both vocalist’s that mental health is very important to them with how natural they sound singing about the struggles an individual might be experiencing. With the natural sound; It might sound weird, but the way I hear it is that you can feel it within your heart that both vocalist’s know the true meaning possibly not having that community when they were growing up, but they are expressing in the track that community does exist and that if you ever need to talk to someone; do it. Cherish the life you have. Cherish the moments such as eating lunch, showering, or even watching your favorite shows to help you cope with what you are going through.
