Omar Apollo releases new single “Te Maldigo” from Luca Guadagnino’s Queer (A24)

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Omar Apollo has unveiled his latest single, “Te Maldigo,” an emotive ballad crafted for Luca Guadagnino‘s highly anticipated film Queer, set for theatrical release on November 27. The song, Apollo’s first full-Spanish track since 2022’s “En El Olvido,” is accompanied by a cinematic music video directed by Guadagnino himself, where Omar performs in character, further immersing fans into the film’s world.

Produced by Oscar-winning duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, “Te Maldigo” is a tender, haunting track that channels the heartache and longing central to the film’s 1950s Mexico City setting. Apollo’s voice, delicate yet powerful, drifts effortlessly over the lush instrumentation, echoing the emotional tension of Queer, based on William S. Burroughs‘ novella.

Visually, the music video is a seamless extension of Guadagnino’s artistry, with Omar, dressed in a custom LOEWE suit designed by the film’s costume designer Jonathan Anderson, performing into a vintage microphone. The retro aesthetic, paired with Guadagnino’s signature dreamlike cinematography, brings the song’s evocative energy to life.

In addition to his musical contribution, Apollo stars alongside Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, and Jason Schwartzman in the film. Queer premiered at the Venice Film Festival to rave reviews, including a 9-minute standing ovation, solidifying its status as one of the most anticipated films of the season.

The release of “Te Maldigo” caps a whirlwind year for Omar Apollo, who earlier dropped his critically acclaimed sophomore album, God Said No. Following his Grammy-nominated debut Ivory, Apollo’s sophomore effort has been praised for its introspection and genre-blurring sound.

Apollo’s year has also been marked by milestone performances, including his Met Gala debut in a custom LOEWE suit, a global God Said No tour, and appearances at marquee festivals like Camp Flog Gnaw in Los Angeles. His music and fashion sense have cemented him as an influential artist reshaping modern pop.

Fans can stream “Te Maldigo” on all major platforms and watch the music video below. Don’t miss Queer, opening in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles on November 27, with a nationwide release on December 13.
