Violet Chachki
Violet Chachki, a drag artist on tour with Allie X, brought a certain type of energy to Spirit Hall that is hard to replicate. This was her first time doing live vocals on stage, but you would have never guessed! Chachki was the seventh season winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, so she knew how to put on a show. She performed her original music and had outfits to die for. Throughout the set, people kept asking her where her waist was, which I thought was very appropriate. Chachki’s commentary alone throughout the set has still been making me giggle a week later. She is not a performer to miss!
Allie X
Allie X, an artist from Toronto Canada, is touring her album, “Girl With No Face,” on the Weird World Tour. This is less of a concert and more of an experience. This does not mean the vocals aren’t pitch-perfect, the music isn’t a blessing to the synth-pop genre and the band isn’t incredible live. What made it an experience was the imagery and queues that happened on stage.
At the beginning, when the lights dimmed, a masked figure came out on the stage and set the stage for the Allie X. All the performers on stage were masked in the beginning, and the only one left masked by the end was the original figure from the beginning of the set. They were the one assisting in the visuals, like the flowing silks behind Allie X during parts of her set. She opened up with her most popular song, “Bitch,” which is iconic. That felt like a statement that her fans were not just there to hear her most popular song, but they were there for her set hollistically, which was true. The croud went wild for songs old and new. Allie X goes beyond the standard for a pop singer and creates a world on tour which she invites you into. For those 15 or so songs, Allie X’s world is one you will crave to go back to!
