Slow Joy, the rising solo project of Dallas-based Chicano artist Esteban Flores, has unveiled his first official U.S. headline tour. The February 2025 tour will see Flores performing tracks from his acclaimed EP, Mi Amigo Slow Joy, which was released earlier this year on June 7, 2024, via Mick Music.
Produced by the legendary Mark Sapone (known for his work with Oso Oso, The Front Bottoms), the EP has garnered widespread praise for its innovative blend of alternative rock influences, with comparisons drawn to iconic acts like The Pixies, Modest Mouse, and Smashing Pumpkins. Notably, Slow Joy has honored with the title of “Best New Band” in the Dallas Observer’s annual “Best Of Dallas” roundup.
Flores has been riding high on a wave of success this year. Following the release of Mi Amigo Slow Joy, Slow Joy spent the fall supporting Real Friends alongside Can’t Swim and Carly Cosgrove on the extensive Forever And Ever And Ever And Ever And Ever And Ever And Ever Tour. This two-month-long trek took Slow Joy across nearly every major U.S. city, marking the project’s most ambitious touring effort to date.
The Mi Amigo Slow Joy EP builds upon the foundation of Slow Joy’s 2023 debut, Wildflower, and showcases a significant evolution in Flores’ sound and songwriting. Mi Amigo Slow Joy EP is a masterful blend of nostalgia and innovation, channeling the essence of ’90s alternative rock while carving out its own modern identity. The EP’s four tracks seem simultaneously expansive and intimate, with gritty, grungy guitar work paired seamlessly with introspective and emotionally resonate lyrics. Tracks like the anthemic opener “Los Perdidos” and the shoegaze-inflected “Te Recuerdo” demonstrate Esteban Flores’ knack for crafting soundscapes that are both raw and melodic. Slow Joy’s ability to infuse old-school alternative rock influences with a distinctly Chicano perspective makes Mi Amigo Slow Joy a standout in today’s alt-rock landscape.
Flores is already hard at work on his highly anticipated debut full-length album, again collaborating with producer Mike Sapone, with a release planned for early 2025. But before that, fans can experience Slow Joy’s electrifying live show during the February headline tour.
