Los Angeles trio Trousdale makes a triumphant return with “Growing Pains,” the lead single from their forthcoming sophomore album of the same name. The track showcases the group’s evolution, leaning further into their country influences while maintaining the pristine harmonies that have become their calling card.
The sound of growth
Opening with a sharp electric guitar riff, “Growing Pains” quickly builds to showcase what Trousdale does best: creating a wall of harmony that’s both powerful and precisely crafted. The song captures the universal struggle of chasing dreams while battling burnout, a theme that resonates particularly well through the group’s signature three-part harmonies. As the bridge builds toward the final chorus, the instrumentation drops away to spotlight the breathtaking vocal blend of Quinn D’Andrea, Georgia Greene, and Lauren Jones – a moment that serves as a masterclass in vocal arrangement.
The track represents a natural progression for the band, incorporating stronger country elements while staying true to their infectious pop sensibilities. This blend of genres feels more assured than ever, suggesting the group has found their sweet spot between Nashville’s storytelling tradition and Los Angeles’ polished production.
Behind the music
“It really is so disorienting at times to have a career that is your passion, but also your work,” shares Jones about the track’s origins. “Your boundaries are constantly being pushed and pulled, and you’re always willing to put in the overtime because you care so much.” This sentiment echoes throughout lyrics like “I’m making it through the tough times when it feels like I’ve been burning out / Trying to build up the muscles so the hustle doesn’t pull me down,” delivered with a warmth that softens the edge of their message.
The song’s themes of persistence and growth mirror the band’s own journey, transforming the universal experience of career burnout into an anthem that feels both personal and widely relatable. This message is cleverly visualized in the official video, directed by Giovanna Trujillo and Sworn Friend Studios, which follows the trio’s transformation from performing menial gym tasks to becoming heroic figures in the boxing ring.
The album
The upcoming album, set for release on April 11 via Independent Co., promises to be their most ambitious project yet. Co-produced by the band alongside John Mark Nelson, Growing Pains was primarily recorded live in the room, featuring an expanded band that delivers their biggest sound to date. The 12-track album brings together co-writing contributions from Mags Duval, John Mark Nelson, and Lawrence Rothman, suggesting a rich collaborative spirit that should add new dimensions to Trousdale’s signature sound.
On the road
Following the album’s release, Trousdale will embark on their headline Growing Pains North American tour, starting April 30 in Philadelphia. The 28-date run, featuring collaborative opening sets from Beane and Nia Ashleigh, will conclude with a hometown show at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre on June 21.
In response to recent wildfire devastation in their home city, Trousdale has partnered with The Ally Coalition to support The California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund. One dollar from each ticket sale will go toward mid-term and long-term recovery efforts, focusing on rebuilding and restoring the lives of California’s most affected and underserved populations.
