On January 16th, 2025– Post-Hardcore band “Sink With Me” from Manchester, NH released their newest emotive single “Marionette” that pulled at our heart strings. The meaning behind the song title is a metaphoric way of explaining that you are being manipulated by strings like a puppet which throughout the single you can sense with lyrics that this track expresses being betrayed by someone you thought loved you, but as you come to realization this person is only manipulating your emotions. “Marionette” has such deep depth and versality behind it which becomes very infectious to listen to because as listener; it made us sit back and realize that we allow people in our lives to have control of us at times and we don’t acknowledge this until it’s too late. This single allows us to get a glimpse of those who go through these types of situations and able to verbally express their emotions through lyrics. “Marionette” is almost like a self discovery single as well because eventually as an individual you understand that during times like this; you lose yourself as a person and are left being an empty vessel wondering what did you do to deserve this? With this single being created shows us that those memories and scars will forever be there, but you need that strength to move forward. That strength to heal and come to terms that you can’t control what a person does, but you can take control of that situation and leave.
“In this song, I’m expressing my own experience of betrayal and manipulation in a toxic relationship. I opened up to someone, allowing them to see my vulnerabilities and the pain I was going through, only to have them turn it against me. They made me feel like I was “damaged goods,” telling me that no one could ever love me the way I deserved.Over time, I began to internalize those cruel words, and the relationship turned into something I never expected. What I once thought was a love story, something beautiful and meaningful, started to feel like a cruel game and I was just hanging on hoping things would get better. The line “nothing left but my heart’s silhouette” is my way of expressing how empty I felt—like my whole self had been erased, and I was just a shadow of who I used to be. This song reflects how deeply I was hurt and manipulated, and the emotional scars that were left behind. But it’s also about the realization that I can’t let that person’s actions define me. The damage they did to me won’t be forgotten, and I’m finding strength in that. It’s a way of reclaiming my own sense of self-worth and acknowledging the hurt while refusing to let it control me anymore.” – Evan Middleton (Vocals)
