The acclaimed husband-and-wife duo JOHNNYSWIM (Amanda and Abner Ramirez) have dropped their new single, “I’m Alright,” a profoundly autobiographical track that delves into themes of resilience, self-reliance, and embracing life’s battles. Released today, this is the final preview before the duo’s much-anticipated fifth studio album, When The War Is Over, arriving February 7, 2025.
Described by Abner Ramirez as “an autobiography wrapped in music,” “I’m Alright” pays tribute to his Cuban immigrant parents, who courageously confronted racism and discrimination while building a life in the United States. The track encapsulates the duo’s hallmark ability to merge deeply personal narratives with universally relatable themes, delivering a message of strength: “I don’t need saving—I’m alright.”
The forthcoming album, featuring 11 tracks, explores the duo’s shared and individual struggles, from family challenges to Amanda’s health journey. Highlights include:
- “Monte Carlo” – A reflective, acoustic-tinged track.
- “Los Feliz” – A joyful, uplifting anthem.
- “She Checks The Weather” – A poignant ballad inspired by Amanda’s resilience.
- “Frank Gehry” – A cautionary tale about the perils of comparison.
- “Cuando Salí de Cuba” – A Spanish-language companion to “I’m Alright,” originally written by Cuban artist Luis Aguilé, honoring Cuban immigrants and Abner’s connection to a homeland he’s never seen.
The album also includes a collaboration with Grammy-nominated rapper Tobe Nwigwe on “Dopamine,” a song Abner calls a “how do I keep going” anthem.
To celebrate the release of When The War Is Over, JOHNNYSWIM will host a special The Drop event at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles on February 6, 2025, featuring an intimate performance and discussion about the album. Shortly after, the duo will make their Grand Ole Opry debut in Nashville on February 11, as part of the Opry’s “Opry 100” celebration.
The pair will embrak on a massive spring headline tour across the U.S. and Europe, beginning in March. Highlights include stops at iconic venues like Town Hall in New York City and the Tennessee Theater in Knoxville. A full list of dates is available below.
