This summer, the iconic Newport Folk Festival returns to Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island, for its 66th year, set to take place from July 25 to 27. As one of the most celebrated festivals in America, the Newport Folk Festival continues to offer a unique and enriching experience that fosters community and hope through the power of music.
The festival is more than just a celebration of folk music—it’s a gathering place where artists and fans come together to create unforgettable moments. Newport Folk provides a safe and welcoming space for artists to express themselves and showcase their talents, while also cultivating a sense of unity and discovery. Attendees can look forward to celebrating the diversity and virtuosity of music that make up the very spirit of the festival.
In addition to the music performances, the Newport Folk Festival is deeply committed to its legacy and mission. Last year, the festival celebrated the creation of the Newport Folk Stewardship Program, a new initiative designed to honor individuals who have demonstrated a history of supporting and enriching the festival’s legacy. These “Newport Folk Stewards” pledge to champion the festival’s values and spearhead meaningful initiatives that will impact the future of the event and the folk community at large.
The inaugural recipient of this honor was acclaimed artist and bandleader Nathaniel Rateliff, whose artistry and advocacy have made a lasting impact on the folk music scene. As the first Newport Folk Steward, Rateliff chose to dedicate his three-year term to advocating for artists, promoting fellowship and mentorship, and furthering the festival’s mission.
