Local Band: Sunday Driver explodes onto the Columbus music scene with a sold-out show at Rumba Cafe

Local band, Sunday Driver, made their debut on the Columbus music scene with an impressive sold-out show at local venue Rumba Cafe. They headlined the show with support from other well-known local acts such as Jack Lutz, Zac Hoina, and Vitruvian Soul.

With such an incredible bill, it was bound to be a spectacular evening, and that it was. Sunday Driver is an indie-rock blues band from Columbus, Ohio. They are comprised of four members, Owen, Jake, Tom, and Ricky. Going into this show, not much was known about them. They impressively managed to sell out Rumba Cafe without any music on streaming platforms. However, Owen Baker, head vocalist and lead guitarist, was able to provide me with some insider knowledge regarding what’s coming up for the band. He said, “We’re currently in the studio working hard on recording our debut EP. It’s something we’re really excited about, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone!” With that said, they certainly aren’t slowing down with shows in the meantime. Their next show is February 9 in Cleveland and I hope that one is just as rocking as this one was.

It was a long show full of groovy blues and killer vibes. Each opener brought a different and unique vibe to the stage that drove my interest for what Sunday Driver was all about. One of my favorite things they did happened before the show; I was given a disposable camera and was told to take pictures of whoever and whatever I wanted. I noticed throughout the night that several other people also had cameras and were taking the craziest pictures during and in between sets. I’m excited to see how they turned out.

Sunday Driver played a killer show with just enough rock-infused blues to bring out the party. The crowd loved them, dancing to the rhythm, singing to covers, and engaging in the banter between songs. Overall, the night was filled with good vibes and great music as friends and family, as well as a lot of scene regulars, were able to come out to enjoy and support a wonderful band as they find their way onto the scene with what they love to do. Be sure to keep an eye on this band as they continue to play shows and release their debut EP.
