Singer-songwriter CLOVER is set to make waves with the release of her debut EP, Atlas, arriving May 30. To kick off this new chapter, she’s shared the lead single “Used to It,” a shimmering, retro-tinged track that leans heavily into 80s-inspired pop—perfect for late-night summer drives.
On first listen, “Used to It” immediately recalls early Maggie Rogers (specifically her Heard It in a Past Life era), blending an upbeat, infectious energy with warm synth textures. While CLOVER’s 2020 release This Love channeled a more Lake Street Dive-esque soulfulness, this new single ventures deeper into pop territory, carried by lush melodies and a cinematic, nostalgic feel.
The accompanying music video, directed by Charlie Losiewicz, further reinforces the song’s retro aesthetic, with a nostalgic film filter that mirrors the song’s dreamy, free-spirited vibe.
The Story Behind “Used to It”
Written about her whirlwind pandemic love story, CLOVER describes “Used to It” as a celebration of radical freedom, love, and life on the road. The song was inspired by an impulsive trip to Mexico that turned into a year-long cross-country busking adventure, taking her through 20 states and countless unexpected moments.
Produced by John Rooney (Taylor Swift, Maggie Rogers, Clairo), Atlas was recorded at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York. Rooney was so captivated by CLOVER’s raw talent and storytelling after catching a set at a small Brooklyn venue that he immediately signed on to produce her debut project.
Who is CLOVER?
A fresh name for most, CLOVER is a rising singer-songwriter blending folk, pop, and soul with an effortless 70s-meets-modern twist. Drawing inspiration from Carole King, Maggie Rogers, and Susan Tedeschi, her music moves between groove-heavy anthems and introspective ballads, exploring themes of love, loss, independence, and self-discovery.
Born in Lambertville, NJ, she turned down a spot on NBC’s The Voice to maintain full creative control over her artistry. Since then, she’s carved out a DIY career, performing at intimate venues across NYC and Philadelphia, selling handmade sustainable merchandise, and even co-writing “Power” for MILCK, which was featured by ABC during Women’s History Month.
With Atlas, CLOVER is setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting, genre-blurring debut.
