On Wednesday, February 12, the New York Sirens took on the Boston Fleet at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Heading into this game, these two teams faced off twice in the past, with Boston winning both matchups.
The first period was a battle of defenses and clean hockey, with just one penalty being called against Sirens’ Jade Downie-Landry for boarding. Susanna Tapani scored for Boston, finding the back of the net, with three seconds remaining in the period. It is Tapani’s sixth goal ofthe season, with the assist credited to Hilary Knight.
The second period went scoreless as both teams showed excellent defensive play. In the third period, Megan Keller extended Boston’s lead, adding to the teams 1-0 lead, scoring her fourth goal of the season, assisted by Jamie Lee Rattray and Hannah Brandt. The Fleet pulled away as Jamie Lee Rattray (BOS) and Shay Maloney (BOS) each scored within two minutes of each other.
With this loss, The Sirens fall to 4-3-2-6 and The Fleet improve to 4-3-2-5. Both teams are currently tied for fourth place and will faceoff two more times in the next 11 days. The Sirens will travel to Place Bell on February 15th to take on the Montreal Victoire, looking to snap a season-long three-game losing streak.
