Mo Lowda & the Humble’s ‘Canary’: A psychedelic prelude to ‘Tailing The Ghost’

Philadelphia’s indie rock scene is buzzing with excitement as Mo Lowda & the Humble gear up to release their fifth studio album, Tailing The Ghost, on June 20. The album is now available for pre-save, and fans can get a sneak peek with the newly dropped single, “Canary,” accompanied by a vibrant animated music video.

“Canary” encapsulates the essence of early 2000s indie pop, delivering a lush soundscape that’s tailor-made for those sun-soaked summer drives. The groovy tune exudes an infectious energy, making it an instant favorite. The accompanying animated music video enhances the experience, offering a psychedelic and almost hypnotic visual journey that perfectly complements the track’s vibe.

The forthcoming album, Tailing The Ghost, was uniquely crafted on the road, with the band drawing inspiration from America’s most scenic locales, including Joshua Tree, Lake Travis, and the Rocky Mountains. This nomadic recording process has imbued the album with a magnetic sound, capturing the energy and essence of these diverse environments.

Bassist Jeff Lucci shared insights into the band’s creative approach: “More spontaneity, gut, and sense of self-assurance was embodied in my approach to writing and recording this record than any other.” This confidence shines through in tracks like “Canary,” which delves into the uncertainties of new relationships. Lead vocalist Jordan Caiola elaborated, “It focuses on the struggle of allowing oneself to fully open up, let it naturally unfold & trust the trajectory–something the narrator has previously (unsuccessfully) grappled with.”

In support of the new album, Mo Lowda & the Humble have announced an extensive North American tour, kicking off with a performance at Boston Calling in May and wrapping up in their hometown of Philadelphia in November. The tour will feature support from French Cassettes and Illiterate Light, with stops at various festivals, including Green River. Tickets go on sale this Friday, February 14, via their official website.

Since their debut in 2013, Mo Lowda & the Humble have remained fiercely independent, captivating audiences with their energetic live shows and masterful instrumentation. With Tailing The Ghost, the band is poised to reach new heights, offering a cohesive and commanding body of work that showcases their evolution and dedication to their craft.

For those eager to experience “Canary,” the track is available on all major streaming platforms, and the mesmerizing music video can be viewed on the band’s YouTube channel. As the release date approaches, anticipation continues to build for what promises to be Mo Lowda & the Humble’s most compelling album yet.
