Rising alternative pop star Malcolm Todd has officially announced his debut self-titled album, Malcolm Todd, set for release on April 4 via Columbia Records. Alongside the announcement, Todd has dropped the first taste of the project—his new single “Bleed” featuring Grammy-nominated artist Omar Apollo.
The track arrives with a cinematic music video, directed by Aidan Cullen, which transports viewers to an underground fight club in New York City. The visually gripping clip is packed with high-profile cameos, including Jack Harlow and Keith William Richards (“Uncut Gems”).
Speaking on the inspiration behind “Bleed,” Todd shared:
“‘Bleed’ started with the idea of making a song purely to dance to. I had never really tried to do that before. It was sort of a joke at first. The more we worked on the song, the more the idea made sense. It just got better and better. Now it’s one of my favorite songs on my upcoming album.”
The track explores the highs and lows of love, capturing the intense emotions of longing and deep connection. Omar Apollo’s signature smooth vocals complement Todd’s energy, creating a mesmerizing fusion of alternative, R&B, and pop sounds.
Todd and Apollo’s collaboration comes full circle after Todd opened for Apollo on tour last year, wowing audiences nationwide, including at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Reflecting on their journey, Todd mentions:
“Omar was the first person I thought of when the idea for ‘Bleed’ started. Getting to work on music with him was a dream come true. From listening to him in high school to opening on tour for him, and now putting out a song together—it’s been awesome. He instilled a lot of confidence in me while putting this song together.”
Todd’s self-titled debut album promises to be his most personal and ambitious project yet, blending alternative rock, R&B, and pop while diving into themes of new love and transitioning into adulthood. The album will also include his breakout single “Chest Pain,” which has rapidly gained traction across streaming platforms and social media, now surpassing 40 million streams.
The announcement follows an incredible 2024 for Todd, which saw the release of his Sweet Boy project, a sold-out North American headline tour, and performances at Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.
With Malcolm Todd on the way and “Bleed” setting the tone, Todd is cementing himself as one of the most exciting rising voices in alternative pop.
