Imminence announces The Return of The Black extended edition, featuring new music, collaborations, and their most ambitious tour yet

Swedish alternative metal act Imminence is kicking off 2025 with the announcement of The Return of The Black, the highly anticipated extended edition of their globally successful 2023 album The Black. Accompanying the release is the searing new single “God Fearing Man,” further cementing the band’s position as one of the most innovative forces in modern metal.

Following an explosive year that included their first-ever sold-out U.S. headline tour, a completely sold-out European run, and their debut headline shows in Australia, Imminence’s momentum is unstoppable. Now, they’re building on their success with an expanded version of The Black, offering fans a deeper dive into the album that reshaped their sound and live shows.

Released on April 12, 2024, The Black marked a pviotal moment for Imminence. Blending orchestral string arrangements with crushing riff and soaring choruses, the album showcased the band’s signature “violincore” sound, led by vocalist and violinist Eddie Berg. The extended edition, The Return of The Black, pushed the sonic palette even further.

The focus track, “God Fearing Man,” is already making waves with its official music video, delivering an intense, emotional performance that perfectly captures Imminence’s raw energy and evolving artistry. The single follows their recent release “Death Shall Have No Dominion,” the band’s heaviest track to date, taking listeners into dark, introspective territory before offering a redemptive life with “God Fearing Man.”

The extended edition also featured re-mastered versions of fan favorites and an impressive lineup of guest collaborators, including Lucas Woodland (Holding Absence), Niklas Karlsson (Orbit Culture), Joel Holmqvist (Aviana), Scott Kennedy (Bleed From Within), and Tim Charles (Ne Obliviscaris). Adding a fresh dimension to the release are two brand-new remixes by longtime collaborator VAAAL, as well as an exclusive cover of the album’s title track by Japanese visual kei band Jiluka, who will be opening for Imminence on their upcoming North American tour.

Rounding out the Return of The Black is the haunting instrumental “La Douleur Que Est Sans Fin,” a fittingly somber yet beautiful closer that marks the final chapter in the album’s story.

Imminence has been steadily building a loyal fanbase since their 2014 debut album I, which recently received a special 10-year anniversary re-release. The Reclamation of I, featuring newly recorded vocals and an updated mix and master, has been widely praised by both fans and critics, celebrating the band’s growth over the past decade.

With over one million followers across social media, more than 400 million streams, and a string of sold-out shows worldwide, Imminence is positioned for their biggest year yet.

In December 2024, the band will play their first-ever European arena headline shows as part of the “The Black Finale“—a groundbreaking live production set to take place in five major cities. These performances will mark a new milestone in the band’s career, showcasing an ambitious stage design and setlist tailored for arena audiences.

In support of the extended album release, Imminence is bringing “The Return of The Black Tour” to North America this spring. With support from LANDMVRKS and Jiluka, the 24-date trek will see the band playing iconic venues across the U.S. and Canada.
