Mt. Joy returns with new single “Coyote” and announces upcoming album and tour

Philadelphia indie-rock band Mt. Joy is back with a brand-new single, “Coyote,” as they gear up for the release of their fourth studio album, Hope We Have Fun, set to drop on May 30 via Futures x Bloom Field Records. Accompanying the album’s release, the band will embark on their extensive “Hope We Have Fun” North American tour, with stops at major festivals including Newport Folk Festival, Bonnaroo, and Governors Ball.

Frontman Matt Quinn shares that “Coyote” was inspired by the sounds of coyotes around Mt. Washington in Los Angeles during a songwriting trip. “I wanted to make a tune that captured their vibe, creating a fun rock songs that honored the coyote’s spirit. The full meaning of the track came together when, in the end, we realized a group of coyotes is called a band. I like to think that, retrospectively, it’s about us sticking together and bringing energy to people like this song does.”

Following a decade of relentless touring and three critically acclaimed albums—Mt. Joy (2018), Rearrange Us (2020), and Orange Blood (2022)—Mt. Joy has steadily risen in the indie-rock scene. Selling out major venues like Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the band continues to amass a dedicated following. With over one billion global streams and numerous Top 5 AAA radio singles, their latest album promises to capture the essence of their journey.

“We’ve all worked incredibly hard together and done ridiculous things in sickness and in health. You just kind of look up and you’re at Madison Square Garden with these people, and it makes you emotional—it feels like something you never could have dreamed. The album is a realization that we pushed ourselves into this crazy world, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. It’s a lot about sticking together in relationships, living a crazy lifestyle, and just kinda saying, ‘I hope we have fun,’” Quinn explains.

The “Hope We Have Fun” tour will kick off on April 19 at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA, and will take the band across North America with performances at top-tier festivals like Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, and Newport Folk Festival. The tour will also include major stops at venues like TD Garden in Boston, Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, and United Center in Chicago.

Formed in 2016, Mt. Joy—consisting of vocalist Matt Quinn, guitarist Sam Cooper, pianist Jackie Miclau, drummer Sotiris Eliopoulos, and bassist Michael Byrnes—has become a staple in the indie-rock scene. The band’s breakthrough came with their 2018 self-titled album, featuring the platinum single “Silver Lining.” Over the years, they’ve earned acclaim from Rolling Stone, Billboard, NPR, and The New York Times, and have performed on major television shows including “The Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

“Coyote” is available now on all streaming platforms. Hope We Have Fun is set for release on May 30 and is available for pre-order. Get your tickets now for the “Hope We Have Fun” tour and experience the magic of Mt. Joy live in 2025!
