Country music icons Rascal Flatts are turning back the clock while forging ahead into a bold new chapter with the release of a nostalgic new take on their 2002 hit “Mayberry,” this time alongside longtime friend and country superstar Blake Shelton. The collaboration is the latest preview from their upcoming album, Life is A Highway: Refueled Duets, set to drop June 6 via Big Machine Records.
“It was so much fun playing with Blake again,” says guitarist Joe Don Rooney. “He was on our first two tours with us back in the day, and it means so much that he wanted to do this project with us. He truly owned this song…it sounds like a Blake Shelton record now!”
The new version of Mayberry captures all the heart and charm of the original with a modern twist: shimmering steel guitar, breezy production, and the seamless blend of Shelton’s signature baritone with the monumental harmonies of Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Rooney. The duet brings a fresh, easygoing energy to one of Rascal Flatts’ most beloved tracks, embracing the record’s theme of musical rebirth and reflection.
The full album promises nine additional reimagined Flatts hits, each featuring a high-profile collaborator spanning country, pop, rock, and gospel. The genre-crossing lineup includes the Jonas Brothers, Kelly Clarkson, Jason Aldean, Backstreet Boys, and Lzzy Hale, among others—each artist lending their own flair to Rascal Flatts’ award-winning catalog.
