Taj Farrant headlines New Year’s Eve at Buck’s backyard

Just a little South, and a tiny bit West of Austin, is the quickly growing city of Buda, Texas—home to one of our many very cool live music venues, “Bucks Backyard.” This past New Years Eve, Buck’s welcomed Australian guitar “prodigy” and all around badass blues guitarist Taj Farrant—and I was very fortunate to be there.

Opening for Taj were Nathan, Bryce & Loaded Dice, joined by special guests Jason Kane White and the Lonesome, offering a spectacular New Year’s Eve celebration.

If you haven’t heard Taj’s music yet, it won’t be long. Taj is 15 years old and has been playing since—well, lets just put it this way, he was tiny when he started playing. Taj has already collaborated with several of the “Greats” including Carlos Santana and Buddy Guy, showcasing his skills in genres like rock and blues. His unique style and virtuosity have earned him a fast-growing fan base and accolades within the music community. Several of his songs have even found their way to major blues charts.

The evening started with Nathan Bryce & Loaded Dice, who brought a mixture of blues, rock, and a little twist of funk to the stage to get the party started—and they certainly did. Guitarist and singer Nathan Bryce, bass guitar Jerry Lee Paswater, and drummer Nathan Halacy were a perfect start to an extraordinary night. Special guests Jason Kane White & the Lonesome then took the stage, bringing some country music and a little bit of rock along. Jason sang several of his original songs, including one of his fan favorites “Dark Horses“ and his newest song, “Way Past Maybe.” You can find their tunes at the link below.

The band includes:

Jason then invited Taj to join them on stage for a couple of songs, one being “Turn the Page“ by Bob Seger, playing it for the first time and with ease.

Taj then returned to the stage with his full band and absolutely killed it! Playing several of his new tunes from his album Chapter One,” including “Bad Trip” and “Cruz.” He was absolutely captivating, filled with precision, soul, and undeniable charisma! His guitar playing is truly something to behold.

Blues, rock and country music “with a twist of funk”— what a way to ring in the New Year!
