NFL’s Darren Waller Releases New Anthem “Top Play”

On April 10th, 2025– Former NFL star Darren Waller released “Top Play” and I have never watched sports before, but I could see this song being performed at the Superbowl or be one of those songs that the sports channel plays during breaks. “Top Play” is fueled with determination and it’s the perfect anthem for high-energy and for those who allow others to control what they do. This single expresses that complexity of freedom and that you should LIVE for YOU and never allow anyone to be in the way of those dreams.

“When I heard the beat drop, I immediately thought, “This would sound crazy behind the SportsCenter Top 10.” The horns and hard-hitting production brought out my competitive side, taking me back to when teams tried everything to stop me. This is the track that makes you say, “Ain’t nobody f***ing with me!” – Waller

Today, Revolt Sports’ I Am Athlete released a new episode featuring Waller. During a workout, host Brandon Marshall has Waller open up about surviving a life-threatening overdose, his decision to walk away from a $30 million contract and his divorce from WNBA player Kelsey Plum. They get real about addiction, therapy and finding purpose beyond football. Waller also reveals why he left the NFL at his peak and how music became his new passion.

Darren also recently appeared on Jon Gruden’s show with Barstool Sports, where they discussed life after football, their time together with the Raiders, and Darren even introduced Gruden to some of his upcoming music. It was an exciting conversation, reconnecting for the first time since football, with Gruden sharing that Darren was one of his all-time favorite players to coach.

When you went to the Giants; you changed your number to #12, what did that symbolize?” – Gruden

Waller explained that the reason he changed his number was because of sobriety and that there is a program called 12 Steps in recovery and that the program helped changed his life. And the principles in that program are the principles he still follows to this day.
