Emerging alt-pop artist and producer ROHAN has released his latest single, “I Wish I Could Tell You,” a vulnerable, guitar-driven confession that blends aching honesty with lo-fi indie-pop sensibilities. The track arrives alongside a DIY visualizer directed by Mark Kohr—known for iconic videos for Green Day, No Doubt, Alanis Morissette—and it’s available now on all streaming platforms.
Based between Melbourne and San Francisco, ROHAN brings raw emotional storytelling to the forefront on this new release, an open letter never sent to an ex following a sudden breakup. “‘I Wish I Could Tell You’ started as a folk song on my acoustic guitar,” ROHAN shares, “written the night of Halloween in my San Francisco apartment after a volatile breakup. We were together over four years and haven’t spoken since that night. This song became the only place I could say what I never got to say.”
The track first gained traction on TikTok, where a demo clip earned a like from Beabadoobee, giving ROHAN the final push to turn the song into an official release. Recorded in his home studio in Melbourne, the song layers gritty 90s-style guitar riffs with modern bedroom-pop production and vulnerable vocals, marking a departure from polished pop and a dive into something more personal and cathartic.
Blending influence from Aussie indie artists like Skegss, Courtney Barnett, and Matt Corby, ROHAN explains: “I wanted that messy, in-the-mud guitar sound. Something that captured the feeling of being stuck emotionally, but still moving forward. I grew up on this sound, but I’m also shaped by R&B, electronic, and folk, so everything kind of blends together in my work.”
Last month, ROHAN debuted the track live while opening for Devon Again, a shared favorite artist between him and his ex at her sold-out San Francisco show, turning heartbreak into a full-circle moment on stage.
With “I Wish I Could Tell You,” ROHAN reclaims the narrative on his own terms, offering closure through creativity, and teasing more to come.
