Rackets down, guitars up: Kevin Atwater spins passion into power on the Achilles Tour

On Saturday, April 26, Kevin Atwater made a brief but memorable stop in the city of Phoenix, Arizona, as part of his first headline tour, “The Achilles Tour.” The evening was filled with anticipation as fans gathered at the venue, eager to experience the unique blend of music and energy that Atwater is known for.

I discovered Kevin roughly two years ago, and always knew that, once he was in town, I would be sure to be in attendance, so to be able to capture it was a dream!

Atwater’s music is some of the most emotionally raw and intimate music currently being produced. His songwriting is honest while taking listeners on a journey with his incredible storytelling skills. Many compare his style to artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Phoebe Bridgers, and Clairo.

I arrived at the venue just as the doors opened, and I secured a decent spot near the front. While waiting for the show to begin, I struck up conversations with fellow fans around me. It was clear that Kevin Atwater has cultivated one of the most dedicated and passionate fanbases I’ve ever encountered.

As the lights began to fade, artist Renny Conti stepped onto the stage. A hush fell over the room, enveloping the audience as he performed tracks from his self-titled album. After Conti finished his set, the room was filled with whispers of amazement and actions of adding his music to Spotify playlists.

Shortly after, Atwater and his band took the stage wearing outfits inspired by “Challengers” to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the hit movie. They opened the show with the song “Threat,” which set the perfect tone for the evening.

Fans were thrilled with a diverse setlist that featured songs from his latest album, Achilles, his debut album, Downers Grove, and even a cover of Troye Sivan’s “My My My!”

As the night drew to a close, Kevin left the stage but not before promising to return for an encore. He concluded the show with his hit song “star tripping,” and the enthusiastic cheers of the audience filled the air as the final notes lingered in my ears.

“The Achilles Tour” was more than just a concert; it was a celebration of artistry and the power of music to bring fans together. For those lucky enough to be in attendance, it was a night they would never forget.
