In preparation for their upcoming album and world tour, God Of Angels Trust, Volbeat releases an impactful music video to accompany “Time Will Heal.” Their single is a mid-tempo, passionate ballad that highlights the defining elements of Vobeat’s sound. Although it is clearly Volbeat’s sound, it is very unique to their other discography. It’s stripped back and more upbeat with the instrumentals that convey a hope beyond the struggle. They further show this in the music video, as the main character uses their song as his only comfort.
Volbeat is known for its creative and emotional music videos, as seen in its 2013 single, “Cape of Our Hero,” and this video is no different. Filled with symbolism relating to Michael Poulsen’s (vocals and guitar) loss of his father and the often overwhelming depression that came after. The video highlights the G.O.A.T. (god of angels trust), connecting the single to the upcoming album’s title and cover art. The main character idolizes this G.O.A.T., hanging him on the wall to hide his room from falling apart. Soon, he begins to see himself as the G.O.A.T. and sinks into his bed. He is no longer consumed by himself, for he sees more to life than his room. Tearing down the wall and seeing his idol being a simple goat eating hay reassures him that he made the right decision in trusting himself. He walks off-screen, and we are left watching the G.O.A.T. in it’s simplicity.
Knowing Poulsen’s inspiration for the song, it establishes the album as one filled with passion and authenticity. God Of Angels Trust is available for preorder here, featuring “Time Will Heal.”
