On May 21, Samia brought her “Bloodless Tour” to Boston’s Citizens House of Blues, delivering a performance that blended intimacy with a bit of indie-pop flair. The venue buzzed with anticipation, and the presence of the majority of Boston’s photography scene let those in the know understand they were in for something special.

Raffaella: An opener who should be headlining

Opening the night, Raffaella, Samia’s close friend and fellow Peach Fuzz bandmate, set the tone with a vibrant set that defied the typical opener expectations. Her track “GROWN UP” stood out as a sassy synth-pop anthem, energizing the crowd and showcasing her ability to entertain an audience with her quick wit alongside some stellar vocals. Raffaella’s opening set was yet another show proving the point that openers deserve our attention.

Samia: A masterclass in intimate performance

Taking the stage amidst a minimalist setup, complete with foldable camper chairs and glasses of wine, Samia created an atmosphere that felt more like a cozy gathering around a campfire with friends than a concert. Her setlist, drawn from her latest album Bloodless, included tracks like “Bovine Excision,” “Dare,” and “Fair Game,” weaving a narrative that was both personal and universally relatable, true to why so many fans are drawn to her in the first place.

A highlight of the evening for me, and coincidentally the encore to close the night, was “Honey,” a catchy tune – which has been stuck in my head since the show – that had the audience swaying in unison. As the youths say: the vibes were immaculate.
