On May 16th, 2025– New Jersey Post-Emo quintet Misery! released their newest single “Casey” that has such a nostalgic soundscape that most of us elder emo’s can truly resonate to. “Casey” explores the theme of pain, lost, and regret of losing someone evoking that emotional aspect of the listener because you never know who might be experiencing these emotions. The vocals in “Casey” has a intricate sound that causes this atmospheric feeling between the mix of the two different types of vocals. It increases that momentum the single needs to standout as well as add that exhilarating feeling. The instrumentation in this single adds the extra layers for the single to send that message that it’s okay to feel pain. And that life is filled with emotions and that sometimes we look at the world in the worse way possible.

Casey” reminds me of early Escape The Fate, Get Scared, and Hawthorne Heights which shows that bands in 2025 can create music that pulls us back to our younger years almost like an echo of time. As I listened to this single; it brought me back to simpler times, but also a time when life was hard for me mentally. “Casey” reminds me why I love this genre of music because it captivated me during my teenage years and pushed me through to continue carving meaning into my life.

“”Casey“” touches base on how we deal with the pain and regret when losing someone. Going through roller coasters of emotions to try to understand why everything has turned out for what we as humans perceive as the worst.  Like a mirror image, there are always two sides to a story. While those stories may vary, in the end our lives will always get better with perseverance and positivity. Whether in the this life or the next, there are always better days ahead.” – Misery!
