FAILURE’s long-awaited documentary “Every Time You Lose Your Mind” now streaming on Hulu

Influential alt-rock trio Failure has officially released their long-awaited documentary, “Every Time You Lose Your Mind,” now available to stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney +. Directed by frontman Ken Andrews, the feature-film traces the band’s dramatic rise, fall, and rebirth, capturing three decades of raw artistry, inner turmoil, and eventual redemption.

More than a typical rock documentary, “Every Time You Lose Your Mind” has already drawn praise from critics for its emotional resonance and depth. Exclaim! called it “a rare example of a band bio that feels necessary,” while the Associated Press lauded Failure as “arty alt-rock legends” finally getting their due. The film spans the band’s inception in early-’90s Los Angeles, their meteoric influence, and the personal demons – particularly addiction and industry friction – that nearly ended it all.

Anchored by interviews with bandmates Greg Edwards, Kellii Scott, and Andrews, the documentary also features commentary from an impressive roster of artists and fans, including Hayley Williams (Paramore), Steve Albini, Jason Schwartzman, David Dastmalchian, Margaret Cho, Butch Vig, Tommy Lee, Maynard James Kennan, and Rick Beato, among others.

To celebrate the release, the film premiered the other evening at the Harmony Gold Theater in Los Angeles, where Failure performed a rare acoustic set for fans and attendees. The stripped-down performance included fan-favorites such as “Pennies,” “The Nurse Who Loved Me,” and “Another Space Song.” See more exclusive content from the premiere HERE.

Our fans have connected with the themes of depression and addiction in our music,” Andrews shared. “The film crystallizes those connections and, ultimately, communicates hope. We’re a band that faced a specific set of challenges and somehow managed to survive and thrive.

Failure’s story is one of resilience. After releasing Comfort and Magnified in the early ’90s, the band cemented their legacy with 1996’s cult classic Fantastic Planet – an album that spawned the unforgettable “Stuck On You” video and later gained mythic status in alternative rock lore. Though they disbanded shortly after, their music remained influential, covered by artists such as A Perfect Circle, Paramore, and Melissa Auf der Maur.

Seventeen years later, Failure reunited for the critically acclaimed The Heart Is A Monster in 2015, followed by 2018’s In The Future Your Body Will Be the Furthest Thing from Your Mind, and most recently, 2021’s Wild Type Droid, recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Every Time You Lose Your Mind” is not just a film about a band – it’s a tribute to survival, friendship, and the enduring power of music.
