In a full-circle moment seven years in the making, psych-rock outfitPost Animal has returned with all six original members – including actor-musician Joe Keery (Djo) – to announce their new album IRON, out July 25 via AWAL. To mark the moment, the band has released a new single and music video for “What’s A Good Life,” a collaborative track that showcases each member’s voice and features real-life medieval fighters, the Omaha Hell Hounds.
A true group effort, “What’s A Good Life” is the latest taste of IRON following lead singles “Last Goodbye” and “Pie In The Sky.” Each of the six bandmates – Keery, Dalton Allison, Javi Reyes, Matt Williams, Wesley Toledo, and Jake Hirshland – take turns on lead vocals, lending the song a communal, cyclical feel as they reflect on meaning and mortality. The music video takes that introspective to the battlefield, featuring the Omaha Hell Hounds sparring in full armor as Post Animal roams the gym and trains alongside them.
“They shifted their weekly strength training plans to accommodate our visit,” the band shared. “Great people, real friends, making sure to do what they love to do.”

The Hell Hounds’ gritty camaraderie mirrors the deeper story of IRON – a testament to rekindled brotherhood and artistic rediscovery. Following years of living in separate cities and navigating personal pursuits – including Keery’s breakout success in “Stranger Things” and as Djo – the six original members of Post Animal reconvened in an Indiana woodland studio. The result is a record that captures not just music, but memory, reconnection, and the joy of creating without pressure.
“This record felt like a revitalization of our friendships and our band,” said Hirshland. “Reintroducing Joe brought back that dynamic from 2017.”
“It was a labor of love,” Keery added. “The record reflects that enjoyment, and you can feel the fun.”
Produced entirely by the band, with engineering from Allison and Charles Glanders and mixing by Djo collaborator Adam Thein, IRON is deeply collaborative and musically adventurous. From synth-pop to psych-rock to folk and vintage pop, the album plays like a conversation between old friends – each track shaped by shared experience and trust.
