On July 11, 2025, Radio Flower released their newest single “G.Y.B” which is the true meaning of the word versatile. Before I talk about this single, let’s remind everyone that smaller artists deserve recognition as well, and I am thankful for TikTok because that platform lead me to this band. The six minute single will have you intrigued the whole time because it’s filled with an emotional tone that could be interpreted as anger or a sigh of relief. The vocals in “G.Y.B” have a cathartic feeling to them with a raw and intense delivery, especially in the beginning, with almost a chant to increase that intensity before the heavier vocals tune in. It keeps the listener on edge because you just don’t know how the single will progress. It fills your mind with curiosity and captivates you to the point where you are wondering what these artists have in store for us. As you listen to the single, you can hear the vocalist say “Black and blue” several times, and you can interpret that in many ways if you analyze closely. My interpretation of that lyric is that black and blue could possibly mean internal scars, betrayal, or even pain a person might feel from a toxic situation. During that part of the song, the vocalist is expressing that lyric with clean vocals, which could indicate pain and that they are voicing a confession that needs to be heard, not only for themselves, but to others that might be experiencing the same situation. “Black and blue” could also mean survival in a way, because when we get bruises after injuries, we realize that we experienced pain, but we survived.
“‘G.Y.B.’ is also one of the most ambitious songs we’ve released in regard to the message it tells. We don’t want to go too into detail about the exact meaning of the lyrics. We would prefer that everyone listen to it and make your own interpretation. We will say this though, this song is for the oppressed, the frustrated, the violated, the broken. This song is a message to our fans, it is a rallying cry and a reminder that we’re all human. Hopefully it can hit the right audience. And love it or hate it, if it makes you feel anything then we’ve done our job.” –RF
