Maren Morris is done playing nice. And she’s making that crystal clear on her fierce new single, “be a bitch,” out today via Columbia Records.
Equal parts clever, cathartic, and cutting, the track finds Morris unapologetically reclaiming her voice in the wake of heartbreak. “My reputation precedes me, your hairline recedes you,” she sings with a wink, delivering some Dolly-inspired lyrical daggers over moody, slow-burning production from Jimmy Robbins. Co-written with longtime collaborator Laura Veltz, the song is the first taste of the upcoming deluxe edition of D R E A M S I C L E, out Friday, August 1.
The deluxe album adds four new songs to her already expansive 2023 project: the breezy, introspective “in love with me;” the driving summer anthem “running;” the floaty, cosmic ballad “earth angel;” and of course, “be a bitch” – perhaps her most vulnerable and venomous track yet.
The new music arrives just as Morris kicks off her “Dreamsicle Tour,” which includes over 40 dates across North America, the U.K., and Europe. Following a high-profile set at Newport Folk Festival, Morris will headline a mix of club dates, theaters, and festival appearances through November 20.
“I don’t need to be a pristine heroine you screwed over. I deserve to be mad,” Morris shared. “be a bitch is for anyone who ever let themselves down by being too nice to someone who was going to take advantage either way.”
With D R E A M S I C L E, Morris stepped into a vibrant new era – one shaped by personal transformation and creative liberation. Described as her most adventurous and emotionally raw work to date, the album blends heartbreak, humor, and healing into something entirely her own. The deluxe edition only deepens that world, offering a glimpse at the Maren Morris who isn’t afraid to get a little messy, or a lot honest.
