GWAR at 40: Still filthy, still furious, still the undisputed kings of carnage

First up in this glorious apocalypse of GWAR content: Live From The Hellmouth. Broadcasting from deep inside Tennessee’s subterranean Caverns on August 22 at 9 p.m. EST, this VEEPS exclusive livestream promises a night of unfiltered filth, face-melting music, and geysers of bodily fluid that OSHA has absolutely not cleared.

This is GWAR in their prime, underground, unhinged, and unapologetically grotesque. Early bird tickets include a seven-day replay, because once just isn’t enough, and VEEPS All Access members can watch for free. Bundles include an exclusive shirt and a GWAR branded Super Soaker, because of course they do.

As Blothar the Berserker eloquently put it:

“We decided to do a gig at a real live hellmouth. Not since Buffy the Vampire Slayer has a hellmouth seen so much death and destruction. We kicked the devil’s ass, and now you can watch a video stream of the whole bloody affair!”

You’ve been warned.

New Multimedia Mayhem: The Return of Gor Gor (Out July 25 via Pit Records + Z2 Comics)

Just ahead of the livestream, GWAR drops The Return of Gor Gor, a multimedia horror hybrid of three brand-new studio tracks, four live cuts, and a 32-page comic so vivid it might actually be illegal in several states.

{unknown}}

Produced by the band, mixed by Kurt Ballou (Converge) and Chris Ronan Murphy, and mastered by Alan Douches, the record channels classic GWAR with new fire. There are vinyl editions with etched artwork, translucent coloring, and a deluxe hardback edition that practically drips with collector appeal.

Track highlights include:

GWAR’s still nasty, still noisy, and somehow tighter than ever.

Return of Gor Gor Tour (Fall 2025): Helmet, The Dwarves, and Blood Vulture Join the Blood Parade

As if that wasn’t enough chaos, GWAR hits the road this fall with HelmetThe Dwarves, and Blood Vulture in tow. It’s a traveling freakshow of punk, metal, and pure madness. The tour crisscrosses North America, with major stops in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Vancouver, and beyond.

From Salt Lake to San Antonio, Philly to Penticton, this tour is a victory lap, a funeral procession, and a baptism by blood all rolled into one. Honestly, the venues should be offering ponchos with every ticket.

A Personal Note: Long Island’s Lost Madness

Let me be nostalgic for a second. I saw GWAR nearly two decades ago at the Crazy Donkey, a long defunct (since 2011 RIP) club on Long Island, NY, that smelled like spilled beer and bad decisions. It was sweaty, it was violent, and it was life changing. At one point, I was covered in what I hope was alien blood, getting shoved around by a guy dressed like a leather clad lizard while Oderus Urungus screamed about disembowelment.

That night, I learned two things:

  1. GWAR isn’t a band. They’re a force of nature.
  2. You’ll never get the smell of their stage blood out of a cotton tee.

All Hail the Scumdogs of the Universe

40 years in, and GWAR still puts 99% of touring acts to shame. They’ve outlived venues, genres, and multiple iterations of their own band members. They’ve survived tragedy, reinvented spectacle, and brought high concept filth into the cultural mainstream.

They’re a brutal, bleeding art piece wrapped in power chords and bile.

So mark your calendars.
Buy the record.
Stream the hellmouth.
And if you’re lucky enough to catch them live this fall… don’t wear white.
