According to Google, Anemoia is a word to describe a feeling of nostalgia for a time or place you’ve never experienced. Although it’s not recognized as an official term, it is a concept that is gaining recognition online. On September 5, SG Lewis will be drawing a nostalgic inspiration from this growing online word sensation with his third studio album Anemoia.
Crafting a sound drawing direct inspirations from early trance, Balearic house, and 2000s electronica, the album will feel both familiar and new, yet also a melancholic and dancable soundtrack for the present day.
“When I discovered the word Anemoia, it articulated a feeling I’d struggled to describe for so long — a nostalgia for times I never lived through.” – SG Lewis
On July 11, SG Lewis released a taste of this nostalgic album with the help from Shygirl, offering the newest single, “Sugar.” Having been their second collaboration, Shygirl’s cutting-edge studio performance firmly grounds the track in the present, while Lewis’ production provides the listener with the nostalgic, melancholic undertone.
The track exemplifies the goal of the album, to create a soundtrack linked between the present and the past.
“More than anything, I want Anemoia to be a soundtrack to living in the present — to creating the kind of moments that others might one day feel nostalgic for.” – SG Lewis
Anemoia is more than just a collection of tracks, it’s a carefully crafted experience. An experience that you can enjoy live starting on September 5 at ACL Live in Austin, TX. From there, the world can also experience this precious sound until November 18, where the Anemoia tour will end at Metro Theatre in Sydney, Australia.
Full dates and tickets can be found on SG Lewis’ website.
