Racing Mount Pleasant releases self titled debut album

Michigan’s own Racing Mount Pleasant has officially dropped their self titled debut album, out now through R&R, the label behind artists like Mk.gee and Dijon. Listen here.

The seven piece band, who first appeared under the name Kingfisher, has built their reputation on intrigue, early singles like “Racing Mount Pleasant,” “Call It Easy,” and “Your New Place” showcased a band unafraid to blur the lines between gritty garage rock, lush instrumentation, and tender, emotionally raw songwriting. Critics have already taken notice, with Alternative Press calling their sound “spellbinding,” and Stereogum praising their “grandiosity” and their “sublime tenderness.”

The group’s story traces back to Ann Arbor, where friends and collaborators cycled through the same house near the University of Michigan, shaping a sound that’s equal parts meticulous and defiant of convention. Their debut album captures that spirit, balancing the technical chops of classically trained musicians with the urgency and unpredictability of a young band carving out its own path.

After two sold-out debut shows in Chicago and New York earlier this year, Racing Mount Pleasant is hitting the road with Geese this fall. The run kicks off October 10 in Vermont and wraps October 30 in Los Angeles, followed by two newly announced headline dates, November 1 at The Echo in LA and November 19 at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn.
