Detroit ska punk troublemakers The Boy Detective is officially back at it. The band just dropped their brand new single “Beth Truss,” and to top it off they completed it with a music video. It’s the first taste of their upcoming full length Disco Lunch, arriving November 7 through Punkerton Records.
Produced by Roger Lima of Less Than Jake, “Beth Truss” is everything you want from a Boy Detective track complete with blasting horns, angry vocals designed for chaos, and a rhythm section that sounds like it’s running on adrenaline and caffeine exclusively. Recorded with Lima and mixed/mastered by Eric Taft, the song takes an old band idea, dusts it off, and supercharges it into a ska core anthem built for sweaty singalongs.
“This ancient song was taken off the shelf, dusted off, and reformatted to sonically invoke singalongs and brain-eating choruses and gang vocals, in the only way The Boy Detective knows best,” says vocalist Benny Capaul. “You’ll find yourself screaming these gang vocals and wanting to rage. In Beth we Truss!”
Disco Lunch marks the band’s second full length, following 2024’s Art Theft. The record is ten tracks deep and pulls from nearly two decades of riffs, chaos, and inside jokes, stitched together into the most energetic Boy Detective project yet. Expect ska breakdowns, punk grit, hooks that won’t quit, and the band’s signature humor woven through the whole thing.
“When we say we threw everything and the kitchen sink in, we meant it,” Capaul adds. “Disco Lunch is ten songs that span almost two decades. We opened the vault, collected, and distributed these gems for you. Let’s boogie!”
Pre-orders are live now, including limited vinyl variants and even a picture disc for collectors.
About The Boy Detective
The Boy Detective started as two friends sneaking out to record songs and has since mutated into a full-blown seven-piece ska-punk powerhouse. Since their debut Banned from the Bathtub (2021) and the follow up Art Theft (2024), they’ve been wreaking havoc across the Midwest with horns, hooks, and their trademark blend of chaos and charm. With Disco Lunch, the band is aiming high, and possibly also for the shake machine at your local McDonald’s.
