Tennis: The (bittersweet) Farewell Tour

Denver’s beloved indie pop duo, Tennis, captivated a packed audience at The Mission Ballroom for their farewell show, a fitting send-off for a band that has become a local treasure. The venue buzzed with familiar faces, friends, and fans who have supported Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley throughout their musical journey. Opening the evening was Real Estate, whose laid-back beach vibes infused the night with nostalgia, perfectly setting the tone for what was to come. Their long standing friendship with Tennis added warmth to the atmosphere.

As Tennis took the stage, the venue transformed into a canvas of memories, with dreamy shadows cast by the stage lights enhancing the emotional resonance of the evening. The couple’s unique chemistry was palpable, as they seamlessly complemented each other, drawing the audience into their world with every note. The setlist featured a mix of tracks from their newest album, Face Down In The Garden, alongside cherished songs from their earlier works. Each performance wove a narrative that celebrated their shared journey, making it clear that this final hometown show was about more than just music, it was a heartfelt farewell to a chapter filled with creativity and love.

A hush fell over the crowd as the final encore concluded. They wrapped up the evening with “12 Blown Tires.” The band described the writing process for this track as an effort to “distill the past fifteen years into four minutes of music; like the end of something.” The air was thick with nostalgia as the last chords rang out, a bittersweet farewell that celebrated the band’s journey while acknowledging the dawn of a new chapter.
