Lisa SQ drops new single “Cold Little Fingers”

Lisa SQ is a Canadian indie-rock artist that will be on the rise – don’t miss out on finding your next favorite artist. She just released her latest single, titled “Cold Little Fingers,” and it’s a perfect embodiment of indie rock and nostalgic pop sounds. Her soulful voice, paired with the fun, catchy lyrics, makes this a truly cute little bop that’ll have you dancing around your room singing along. Her icons of inspiration—Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf, and David Bowie—touch on the subjects of celebrating the beauty in human clumsiness while projecting it in a playful way. From the first listen, that is exactly what my mind is connected to, especially regarding the artists that have helped create this art.

The lyrics are hauntingly beautiful in a spooky way. What better way to welcome in all that creeps than by writing a song that expresses that? Interestingly enough, while this track does draw from moments of distraction and disorientation, Lisa SQ has mentioned that this is from her life with her partner. Her partner has habits of talking in his sleep or sometimes flailing around at night, and the moments of terror have led to her writing this song.

She said, “I regularly wake up to him mid-conversation with me, unsure if he’s asleep or awake. While disorienting in the moment, I find the whole thing pretty sweet and funny.” I think that sums up perfectly what she as an artist is trying to express: “human clumsiness” but in a “playful” way. While her partner is probably completely unaware of what they do in their sleep, activity like this is often disruptive to some, but she’s not bothered at all by their actions. She finds everything quite endearing. I’m sure we all can think of a similar situation we’ve experienced where it might have been more “scary,” but instead of looking at the dark side, we viewed it more lighthearted.

I think having a viewpoint and an artist’s voice like this is something we could all use a little bit. Life is full of dark twists and turns, but sometimes looking at things through a different lens can help change perspectives — maybe even realize that a disappointing loss can be for the better. Often or not, pessimism makes one’s own thoughts miss out on life and what could be rather than what was.

Either way, I think “Cold Little Fingers” is a catchy tune and you should give it a listen.
