Progressive bluegrass trailblazers Greensky Bluegrass are marking their 25th anniversary with something special: a reimagined take on their fan favorite “In Control,” now featuring longtime collaborator and folk powerhouse Lindsay Lou. The new version is out everywhere today.
“When Lindsay started singing this, she became part of the song,” says mandolinist Paul Hoffman. “She enriches anything she touches and lifts up the whole room when she sings. When we play this live, you can feel the emotional current ripple through the crowd.”
The single sets the stage for the band’s forthcoming album XXV, arriving October 31 via Big Blue Zoo Records/Thirty Tigers, the exact date Greensky first came together in Kalamazoo back in 2000. XXV features fresh energy and close friends including Sam Bush, Billy Strings, Nathaniel Rateliff, Aoife O’Donovan, Holly Bowling, and more. Each guest represents a piece of Greensky’s story across 25 years of relentless touring and ever evolving sound.
Dobroist Anders Beck says, “After a quarter century of making music together, it felt right to invite our friends to help us rework some of the songs that shaped our band. We wanted to celebrate where we’ve been, show how far we’ve come, and give everyone a great time listening along the way.”
Known for their powerhouse live shows and fiercely devoted fanbase, Greensky Bluegrass has grown from humble Kalamazoo beginnings into a mainstay at iconic venues and festivals. This fall, the band is deep into a headline run across North America, highlighted by two big hometown anniversary shows at Wings Event Center October 31 and November 1, plus stops in Charlotte, Milwaukee, Miami, Jacksonville, Madison, and more. They recently celebrated their 20th performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, a milestone few bands ever hit.
