On October 10, you could feel the floor shaking at The NorVa. Rolling into the city Friday night was Rico Nasty and SadBoi. Fans were lined up around the block to see this iconic performance! The energy arriving into the venue was like I transported straight into a film from the early 2000’s. Norfolk, Virginia, knows how to show up to a concert. Fans were dressed in fur, chains, cowboy hats, platform boots, y2k outfits head to toe. The confidence was contagious. 

When opener SadBoi stepped stage, the roof blew off and set the tone for the night. The 25 year old Canadian artist levitated the crowd and had every hand in the air. She played one of her most popular songs, “Baddies,” then closed the show by playing “We Are Young” by fun. and Janelle Monáe, which had every fan screaming at the top of their lungs. 

The echoing cheer chanting Rico Nasty’s name rang throughout the 106 year old building, and the anticipation began for her to set stage. Then out of nowhere, the room went dark, and the intro to her song “Who Want It” started to play as red and white strobe lights flashed on the audience. The barricade shook back and forth as the fans from Norfolk Virginia sang every song word for word. 

Leaving the venue, you could hear fans singing her songs all the way back to their cars and talking about how incredible she truly was! As someone who has been a fan of Rico Nasty since I was in middle school, I couldn’t believe how insane of a show she puts on. She is a true icon and performer who has really mastered her craft like no other. I would attend her concert again tomorrow if I could!
