Grace VanderWaal returns with new single “High”

Grace Vanderwaal

Internationally acclaimed artist and actress Grace VanderWaal makes her return with the release of her new single “High,” out now via PULSE Records. The reflective ballad captures the quiet beauty of fleeting, perfect moments — the kind that feel suspended in time and linger long after they’ve passed. Written during an impromptu studio session, “High” channels VanderWaal’s instinctive creativity and her ability to turn raw emotion into intimate, resonant storytelling.

Built around tender flashes of nostalgia — “my breath starts to slow, in the front seat saying man it’s been a long time” — and vivid, sun-drenched imagery like “white sugar in iced tea and porch light,” the song drifts effortlessly between memory and longing, soft as summer air.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, VanderWaal shares, “About a month ago, I went into the studio with no idea what I was going to write. I just started singing, ‘Do you wanna get high?’ and from there the idea came to make a song about those moments where everything already feels perfect… and then your friend looks at you and says, ‘You know what would make this even better?’”

“High” marks VanderWaal’s first release since her deeply personal sophomore album CHILDSTAR, which arrived earlier this year. Heralded as her most revealing body of work to date, the album chronicled transformation, self-discovery, and emotional renewal. With “High,” VanderWaal continues to expand her artistry — embracing vulnerability and connection through a lens that feels both nostalgic and new.
