COMMOTION: Blending rock, hip-hop, and R&B for emotional resonance

COMMOTION is a genre-blurring project that bridges guitar-driven rock and electronic textures with the pulse of hip-hop and R&B. What began with a 12-year-old with a guitar has grown into a fully-formed creative voice shaped by years of songwriting, touring in metal bands across the US and Canada, and collaborating with producers like David Bendeth and Bobby Huff. Influenced by the grit of late ’90s and 2000s rock but reframed through a modern, emotional lens, COMMOTION makes music for those carrying loss yet still reaching for connection.

This summer, COMMOTION released a handful tracks. “Booty Calls (Rewind Remix)” flips a previously rock-forward track into a smooth, seductive blend of hip-hop and R&B without abandoning its original electric backbone. The Weeknd-esque vocal tone instantly captivates, hovering over shimmering synths and subtle guitar strums. The rap verses heighten the tension. The track is provocative, alluring, and designed for listeners craving that fleeting, late-night moment. It’s intimate, dynamic, and irresistibly atmospheric.

Similarly, “Stargazing” shifts into a more contemplative space, merging alt and hip-hop elements to capture the quiet ache of missing someone who’s no longer there. It feels like a late-night drive under an endless sky, where memories flicker like constellations, fading again with the coming sun. Both cosmic and emotionally grounded, the track mirrors Commotion’s core mission: exploring grief, hope, and connection through modern, genre-fluid production.

And then there’s kombucha,” a sparkling slice of pop mischief that adds a vibrant, playful dimension to the project’s catalog. From the first beat, the track bursts open with a rhythm as refreshing as its namesake, with punchy kicks, crisp claps, and synths that shimmer like summer sunlight. Part playful confession, part party-floor persuasion, it hooks the listener instantly. The vocal phrasing is cheeky and charismatic, riding over an arrangement that feels effervescent and expertly layered. COMMOTION leans into the fun side of pop here: clean, polished, undeniably catchy, and radio-ready, but delivered with a personality bright enough to stand apart. It’s a contagious, cleverly crafted banger that lingers long after the final chorus.

Together, these songs highlight a project evolving with intention. One that’s bold, personal, and tuned to resonate on a deeper frequency. I’m excited to see where COMMOTION takes us next.
