Stranger Things Season 5 Soundtrack

Thursday, January 1: Following the airing of the final episode of “Stranger Things,” “The Rightside Up,” on New Year’s Eve, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, Legacy Recordings, has made the entirety of Stranger Things: Soundtrack from the Netflix Series, Season 5 available across all digital platforms! The song collection includes 14 songs from the previously announced additions of Volume 1 and Volume 2, as well as four new additions from the series finale: David Bowie’s “Heroes,” Iron Maiden’s “The Trooper,” Pixies’ “Here Comes Your Man,” and Cowboy Junkies’ cover of “Sweet Jane” by The Velvet Underground!

On Friday, January 30, the complete Stranger Things: Soundtrack from the Netflix Series, Season 5 will be available on CD, vinyl, and red cassette figurations. There will be multiple colored vinyl variants, including the standard black pressing, Amazon’s exclusive red smoke, Target’s exclusive blue smoke, Walmart’s exclusive orange marble, and the Sony Music Store’s marble yellow exclusive colored vinyl.

Volume 1 was released over Thanksgiving weekend, giving fans their first taste of the soundtrack for Season 5, unveiled in partnership with the first four episodes of the season. Featuring The Chordettes’ “Mr. Sandman” – following its usage in Season 5, surged 625% in global streams on Spotify – Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” – up 490% – and ABBA’s “Fernando” – up 335%. Christmas Day saw the release of Chapters 5 through 7 of the season, and Volume 2 followed on Friday, December 26. With these episodes, Butthole Surfers’ 1987 “Human Cannonball” and Floyd Cramer’s “Heart and Soul” were added to the Season 5 soundtrack. The soundtrack for season 5 was conceptualized and produced by The Duffer Brothers and Nora Felder. Nora Felder, who is a two-time GRAMMY nominee and Emmy winner, has served as the music supervisor for “Stranger Things” since the beginning of the show. In 2022, she won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Supervision for “Stranger Things.” The compilation album is also produced by The Duffer Brothers and Rob Santos. “Stranger Things” is produced by Upside Down Pictures, created by The Duffer Brothers, and 21 Laps Entertainment. The Duffer Brothers, Shown Levy (of 21 Laps Entertainment), and Dan Cohen serve as executive producers.

Legacy Recordings has been releasing soundtracks for each season of “Stranger Things.” Stranger Things: Music from the Netflix Original Series, released in 2017, features many hits from the 1980s for the first two seasons of the show. It debuted in the top 10 on Billboard’s U.S. Top Soundtracks chart and received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. Stranger Things: Music from the Netflix Series, Season 3, released in 2019, followed after the season was released with fifteen songs and an original cast recording. Stranger Things: Soundtrack from the Netflix Series, Season 4 was released by Legacy Recording in 2022, featuring Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God),” KISS’ “Detroit Rock City,” a Bryce Miller/Allot Tracks remix of Journey’s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” and many more. The season 4 soundtrack held the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top TV Songs chart for three consecutive months and also received another GRAMMY nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack in the Visual Media category.

After debuting in 2016, “Stranger Things” quickly became Netflix’s most popular television series ever, with its fourth season having amassed over 140.7 million views globally. The show, rooted in ’80s nostalgia, helped boost Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” into the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time in its 38-year history. The series has also accumulated over 70 awards worldwide, including Emmys® and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, and has been nominated for over 230 awards.
