New Jersey emo/alternative band Capillary kicked off the year with the release of their debut full-length album, In Remembrance, out now via 51st State Records.
Pulling influence from Sunny Day Real Estate, Rites of Spring, Mineral, and Title Fight, In Remembrance leans into strong melodic builds, layered guitar work, and emotionally grounded vocals. The album unfolds patiently, allowing moments to develop naturally rather than forcing resolution.
The record was recorded, mixed, and mastered with Justin Bartlett at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania (All Under Heaven, Carly Cosgrove), capturing a sound that feels expansive without losing its intimacy.
Across ten guitar-driven tracks, Capillary explores change, grief, and self-actualization while coming into adulthood. Brighter, sing-along moments give way to quieter introspection, creating a dynamic emotional arc that mirrors growth in real time. Guest appearances from Dazey Doom on “Impermanence” and Koyo on “Plainview” add texture without disrupting the album’s cohesion.
The album’s emotional centerpiece, “Disaster//Perspective,” arrives alongside a new music video. The track leans heavily into grief and recalibration, pairing restrained instrumentation with lyrics that feel observational rather than declarative.
Speaking on the album, vocalist and guitarist Jake Rubin shared:
“A big theme for the record is growth, then implementing what we learn through that growth and ultimately reaching self actualization. That transgression of growth is how I’d like the meaning of the songs to inspire any listener. I think when songs can shape shift and grow over time, you’re left with something intangibly permanent in your world view. I’ve always appreciated when the artists I like leave me with something potent and that was what I hoped to achieve here.”
