Kenny Mason dropped Pup Pack: 2nd Shift last month, surprising his fans with a birthday release. Pup Pack: 2nd Shift is a follow-up to his previous release in November, Pup Pack 1st Shift, expanding on his sound and essentially creating an EP between the two singles. The tracks on the single are “Diamonds,” “Gorgeous,” and my favorite track, “4.”

Pup Pack: 2nd Shift is Mason’s second release since 2024’s Angel Eyes. Each of these tracks showcases a different aspect of Mason’s flow and style. This single proves that Mason has access to a wide realm of sounds and can take inspiration from multiple corners of music. The project leans into the confidence and swagger that Mason brings, with sharp hits on the beat that highlight his flow. Mason has proven to be one of the more unpredictable artists with his sound, something I admire; you never know exactly what kind of music you are going to get, and I respect that. Pup Pack: 2nd Shift was actually released on his birthday, which makes the songs feel that much more personal to the artist. Usually, the birthday boy is the one receiving gifts, so Kenny Mason must have really been feeling the Christmas spirit to give the hip-hop community the gift of a three-song release.

Mason has been on a run recently with festival performances at Bonnaroo, Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw, and Lollapalooza. In addition, he has had his own headline show runs and has appeared on tour with the likes of Denzel Curry, Danny Brown, and JPEGMAFIA. Mason’s future in the hip-hop industry is bright, and with his constant evolution in sound, fans should be excited for what’s in store.

Mason said to keep an eye out in 2026, as more music is planned to be released. My eye is certainly open, and I am looking forward to those drops—and maybe a full album. We will just have to wait and see.
